Atlas Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine,
located on Park Avenue South at 31st Street in Manhattan, New York
and in Millburn, New Jersey offers brachial plexus block pain management and pain treatment.
Brachial plexus nerve blocks are performed to treat patients with
chronic pain. Nerve blockade has widespread acceptance and diverse
application in the field of pain management.
The nerves of the upper
extremity (the forearm and hand) originate in the neck where they
exit from the spinal cord. These nerves form a intricate web of
nerves known as the brachial plexus. This web of nerves gives rise
to the three main nerves that travel down the arm, carrying both
messages of sensation (from arm and hand back to brain) as well as
messages of movement (from brain to muscles). When a solution of a
local anesthetic drug is injected in the proximity of the brachial
plexus, it anesthetizes the nerves and interrupts the transmission
of these messages and therefore blocks pain.
If your diagnosis is not
appropriate to be treated with a brachial plexus nerve block we have
many alternative pain management treatments which may be more
