A Facet Block Injection is
a popular treatments elected by patients who are experiencing pain

block is performed when it is confirmed that a facet join is
the source of your pain. A facet block decrease pain and
inflammation in a facet joint or joints.
A facet joint block is specifically performed by inserting a needle
into the center of the facet joint(s). During a facet joint block,
you will be given medication to help you relax, then a local
anesthetic in the skin around the area of the back where the needle
will be inserted. The doctor watches on a fluoroscope as he inserts
the needle to make sure it goes into the accurate facet joint (a
fluoroscope is a special X-ray TV that allows the doctor to see your
spine and the needle). Once the doctor is sure the needle is in the
facet joint, he will inject a combination of anesthetic into the
joint. The facet block procedure takes less than 30 minutes.
