Atlas Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine,
located on Park Avenue South @31st Street in Manhattan, New York and
in Millburn, New Jersey can
provide pain management and treatment for fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a disorder that causes muscle pain and fatigue.
People with fibromyalgia have various tender areas on their body.
The tender points are specific places on the neck, shoulders, back,
hips, arms, and legs. These points hurt when pressure is put on
them.
People with fibromyalgia may also have other symptoms, such as:
Trouble sleeping
Morning stiffness
Headaches
Painful menstrual periods
Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
Problems with thinking and memory (sometimes called "fibro fog")
Fibromyalgia was once thought to be an inflammatory condition and
later a psychiatric one, but neither of these causes now appears
justifiable. No good evidence of inflammation or arthritis has been
found. When depression and anxiety occur they are more often the
result than the cause of fibromyalgia. Patients with fibromyalgia
are no more likely to be depressed than patients with other chronic
painful disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis. Spinal fluid levels
four times normal of the main pain neurotransmitter substance P
suggest that the pain is not imaginary.
Fibromyalgia and be managed
and treated.
